In a former review, I let slip that I didn't like J Lewis' earlier stories. But going through the lot again, it seems I must have confused J Lewis with someone else. Which is hard to do, once you're aquainted with J's style. With regard to there not being "the usual paragraph form" and the restrictions it has upon the reading pleasure; I once read a book from one of Belgium's most prolific writers --Jef Geeraerts (biggest international success, both as a novel and the ensuing movie, was "Alzheimer"). That book was his first, entitled "Gangreen - Black Venus". Printed in the mid-sixties, "Gangreen" was a bit of a scandal as it handled Geeraert's 7 year stint (1952-1959) as a Provincial Labourer Overseer in the Congo and the fun he had, both in overseeing as in pinning a string of Black Beauty's to his pole. Anyway, the fun part about the book was that it was written as one long sentence. No paragraphs, no punctuation marks, no upper cases to indicate the start of a new sentence. A bit of a puzzling experience, to say the least, but that didn't take anything away from the incredible content... "Jessica's Abduction" is good. Very good even. Because J Lewis doesn't fall into that pit so many others dive into. He lets the abducters handle Jessica as an inanimate object, just a piece of meat, but without forgetting Jessica as a person herself. That's what 'saves' this story. Saves, as in making "Jessica's Abduction" just this bit better than in stories where the abductee is just a ragdoll, without feelings. And I'm not surprised by the last chapter. First of all because number six doesn't seem to be the last one. Since my sister's dog ran off with the highest scorecard, I'll settle for number nine in the pack. JJ (9/10)

The last chapter surprised gyrl, but not in a positive way. The story code should have reflected this. gyrl admits she juiced quite a bit for the first three chapters. For some reason, the posting did not retain the usual paragraph form, so it was a bit difficult to read. (6/10)
