I would have preferred "Evaline May In June" as a title, but hey, that's me.
If anything, what "Evaline" does is prove that A.Broadsword is a great writer when he's on what I presume is more familiar terrain.
What I also like here -and in other Broadsword tales- is the omnipresent, slightly ironic humor -often at the expense of the class some people belong to, or even society as a whole.
It takes craftmanship and insight to do that in an accurate way.
It is exactly this craftmanship, combined with a certain flair A.Broadsword lends his characters and descriptions, which make "Evaline May In Africa" as good as it is.

More about Racists than Racist, Broadsword has ventured into Colonial Africa for what I expected to be a sequel to "Kidnapped," But no, a lusty upper class English girl sates herself on African studs and then is forced to marry a poor white lad.
Well worth a look.. (9/10)
